Develops, coordinates and funds services to older people and people with disabilities, via Government and non-Government agencies. The SSDO provides support to services in the form of advice about submissions, oversees the monitoring of service provision by service providers and disseminates information to them.

Office hours Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm - Closed Thursday 9am to 12 noon.
A multi-disciplinary team comprising a Community Nurse, Social Worker, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical psychologist, Physiotherapist, Paediatrician. We provide early intervention therapy to children with global delays. School therapy, respite and recreation for school age children. Post school options, supported employment, respite and accommodation services for adults. Caseworkers are responsible for investigating and case-managing the services provided to consumers. Services may be DADHC funded or NGO's. We also provide developmental and psychological assessments for eligible people in the Hawkesbury. DADHC also provide a behaviour intervention service, providing programs for clients to use in the home. Clients have a moderate to severe intellectual disability, diagnosed before the age of 18 years.
Service is available to people who self refer, through doctors, other professionals and is free. Interpreters are available if needed.

The Community Services Division is the NSW Government Agency that investigates complaints of abuse and neglect within both Government and Non Government Service Providers and is another avenue for families to seek help. The Guardianship Tribunal is a legal tribunal. It appoints guardians for people with disabilities aged 16 years and over who are incapable of making their own decisions, and need a legally appointed substitute decision maker because no appropriate or safe informal arrangements are in place, or for some other reason. If a guardian needs to be appointed, the Guardianship Tribunal will consider appointing a family member or friend. If this is not appropriate, the Tribunal will appoint the Public Guardian.
The Tribunal also appoints financial managers as substitute decision makers for people aged 16 years and over who are incapable of managing their own financial affairs and need a legally appointed substitute decision maker because no appropriate or safe informal arrangements are in place.

The service provides training opportunities to volunteers in Home and Community Care (HACC) in the Nepean Region (Blue Mountains, Penrith, Hawkesbury and Blacktown LGA's). It offers: orientation sessions, seminars and workshops on a variety of relevant subjects (eg communication skills, understanding dementia, disability awareness, aspects of ageing, understanding clients from culturally diverse backgrounds, grief and loss); training programs on a regular basis (training calendar) open to volunteers of all HACC services and conducted in central locations; flexible training programs in response to identified needs of services, conducted on-site.

The Office of Public Guardian acts as a substitute decision maker for a person who has a disability, an incapacity to make their own decisions, and a need for a guardian when appointed to do so. The Public Guardian makes decisions in such areas as accommodation, services and consenting to medical and dental treatment. The Public Guardian also advocates for the services and support needed by people under guardianship. The Public Guardian is commonly appointed as guardian by the Guardianship Tribunal.

The Special Needs Subsidy Scheme (SNSS) helps Commonwealth funded child care services care for children with ongoing high support needs, particularly children with a disability. The Scheme enables these children, who may previously have been unable to use child care services, to participate equally in child care programs, and compliments the SUPS Program (Supplementary Services Program). Children with ongoing high support needs may include: * children with diagnosed disabilities * children undergoing continuing assessment for disabilities or developmental delay; or * refugee children who have been subjected to torture or trauma. The type of support offered depends on the needs of the child, their family and the child care service.

Adult Sales tax exemptions are available on new motor vehicles for people with disabilities who use the vehicle for private use to and from gainful employment i.e. more than 8 hours per week. Another exemption cannot be applied for within 2 years or under 40,000 kilometres.
